FOCUS-ON is built on the SAMSON and KROHNE values and DNA. SAMSON, founded in 1907 in Mannheim, Germany, is a specialist in valves for the process industry. While KROHNE, founded in 1921 in Duisburg, Germany is a process instrumentation specialist.
The first seed for a potential partnership had already been planted a few years earlier, but it was in 2017 that the CEOs of both companies – Dr. Andreas Widl and Mr. Stephan Neuburger – signed the contract for an ambitious collaboration called: FOCUS-ON.
We are very proud to be part of this once in-a-lifetime opportunity. Hard work, commitment, and major team effort made it possible to place a rock in the river and forever change the flow.
Scarcity of water and other resources, deforestation, and continued global warming are serious challenges that need to be addressed urgently. Process industry can do its part by modernizing processes so as to use feedstock efficiently, consume less energy, and produce high quality that last longer.
We are in the midst of vast amount of knowledge leaving the process industry in form of retiring workforce. This will create a gap in specialist know-how on one hand but also fuel massive demand for information by new users and require a disruptive approach to use of ever smarter equipment.
Emergence of new technologies (e.g. blockchain), increasing acceptance of some (e.g. cloud computing), and rapid progress in commercial viability of others (e.g. 3D printing, additive manufacturing) are enabling faster product development and driving digitization within the process industry.
The complexity of the traditional process loops does not only lie in the variance of control, measurement, and processing components installed but also in process quality & data transparency to higher levels of the pyramid, such as manufacturing level with access to SCADA/HMI systems in control rooms of process plants.
